Wireless Earbuds Under $150 That Punch Above Their Price

The gap between a $300 flagship and a $120 pair of earbuds used to be enormous. This year it has narrowed to the point where the difference is mostly in the margins: a little more bass, a little better transparency, a firmware update cadence. We bought eight pairs under $150 and measured the three things budget earbuds usually get wrong — noise cancellation, real battery life, and fit retention after a workout.

Noise Cancellation: Depth vs. Width

ANC is not a single number. Some buds cancel low-frequency rumble beautifully but let voices through; others tame the mid-range chatter of an office while struggling with a plane engine. For commuting, depth matters; for shared spaces, width wins. Only two of our eight handled both convincingly, and neither carried a flagship price.

Battery claims are where budget earbuds are boldest. We measured every pair at 50% volume with ANC on — the honest setting.

Every pair overshot its claim, by 12% on average. The budget pick was the worst offender — a reminder to treat "up to" numbers as a best case.

Fit Is the Feature Nobody Markets

The Verdict

9.0

Our top pick delivered genuinely useful ANC, honest battery life and stable fit for well under $150. Unless you need the very best transparency, there is little reason to spend flagship money this year.

Strong Points

  • Effective hybrid noise cancellation
  • Multipoint Bluetooth that just works
  • Comfortable for long sessions

Weak Points

  • Battery claims remain optimistic
  • Transparency mode is serviceable, not natural
  • App can be cluttered
